- Credit derivative
-
A financial contract between two parties that allows a party to take,or reduce, credit exposure (generally on a bond, loan or index). A distinction is usually made between exchange traded derivatives and over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives, such as credit default swaps, total return swaps and credit spread options. The value of the contract is frequently related to the performance of underlying market factor.
