L´Instrument Financier pour l´Environnement (LIFE+)

Financial Instrument for the Environment for funding and programming environmental activities of the European Union. This instrument decided upon in June 2006 by the Council regroups existing environmental programmes and instruments in a single framework. These include the LIFE programme, the Forest Focus and Urban programmes, DG Environment´s funding programme for environmental non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and a general fund for policy development and implementation.The programme consists of three strands Nature and Biodiversity, Environment Policy and Governance, and Information and Communication on environmental issues.The budget for the period 2007-2013 for LIFE+ is € 2.1 billion.
