Investment rating

Evaluation of the creditworthiness of a debt issuer. Investment rating reflects both "capacity and willingness" of obligors as to the timely payment of interest and principal in accordance with the terms of their obligations. Investment rating has become important parameters in market acceptance and pricing of debt. The ability of governments and municipalities to raise funds is crucially affected by the rating, which is given by one or other of the ratings agencies on different credit rating scales.
