Credit linked note (CLN)

Structured security - usually issued through a special purpose vehicle - that is designed to offer investors par value at maturity unless a referenced credit defaults. In the case of default, the investors receive a recovery rate. Given the higher risk exposure compared to traditional bond issues, CLNs usually offer higher returns.
